Santa Ana la Real (E)

Las Nanas is located within the municipality of Santa Ana la Real at a distance of about 5 kilometers. A typical Andalusian village with white houses, a church and a town hall. Although the village has only 700 inhabitants, there are two grocery shops and two cafes. Throughout the year there are parties, starting with Epiphany, the big children’s party. Then carnival, Semana Santa and donkeys run around the church at Easter. In May there is a romería where St. Mary is carried around in a procession and the people are dressed in flamenco style during the festivities. At the end of June there is Saint Johns fire. At the end of July is the holiday of Santa Ana when the village is in a  party mood during a whole week and there is a corrída. On September 8th, the whole village will walk in a procession to Alájar to worship Mary on the rock. With All Saints the shepherds cook their shepherd’s meal on the village square for all visitors. Christmas and New Year are celebrated modestly.
